Travelling by bus in 2026: comfort has caught up with the price
For years the bus was the choice you made with your wallet, not your back. That has changed. Step aboard a modern long-distance coach in 2026 and you will find reclining seats with proper legroom, on-board Wi-Fi, USB and wireless charging, reading lights that actually work and climate control that keeps the whole cabin comfortable from the first row to the last.
Operators have understood that travellers compare them not with each other but with trains and budget airlines. The result is a quiet arms race of comfort: wider seats, on-board entertainment you can stream to your own phone, and coffee machines on the longer routes.
And the best part has not changed at all: city-to-city bus travel remains the most affordable way to explore. Book a few days ahead and the price of a cross-country trip is still often less than a restaurant dinner.
If your last coach trip was a decade ago, give it another chance. You may find that the cheapest seat on the road has quietly become one of the most comfortable.
